Gift Yourself for Mother’s Day

I’ve been a mom for 10 years. Ten years. Wow! Mother’s Day is such a fun holiday, but it can also feel overwhelming. Most days I don’t feel like I’m a good mom so I feel guilty being “celebrated” on Mother’s Day. I also hate the expectation of gifts, breakfast in bed and kids behaving all day long. It’s definitely not a picture perfect day but you can almost make it one by treating yourself and setting the expectations with your loved ones. I’ve learned that my husband and kids can’t read my mind so I’ve had to tell them what I want for Mother’s Day (and really every birthday and Christmas). It makes the day less stressful and everybody is happy. If you want your day to look a certain way, you have to create it yourself! Here’s some of the things I’ve purchased over the last little while that I’m calling my Mother’s Day gifts. It’s a lot…oops!

I love buying new clothes and shoes when the seasons change, just like everyone else! Target is my favorite place to shop for fashion because it’s affordable, cute and on trend. You might end up matching every other mom, but oh well! I’m learning to be okay with it. These paper bag pants are my actual favorite. So flattering, comfy and pairs well with anything! Also these shoes and earrings <3

Spend a day at the spa! I almost canceled my massage the night before because I felt so guilty about it. Why do moms do that?! As my amazing massage therapist reminded me, “You can’t pour from an empty cup.” It’s so true! I didn’t regret my heavenly 50 minute massage AT ALL! It was so healing. Money and time well spent. You deserve to be pampered! My most favorite spa treatments have been at Sagestone Spa at Red Mountain Resort. The most peaceful and serene place. The people who work there are incredibly kind and very professional. People come here from all over the world and for good reason! I love it there and will be back soon!

Home refresh. I’ve been itching for change lately. We’ve been in our house for 6 years and I’ve needed a change of scenery. I have crazy plans but my husband says no so I’ve done what I can to make it a little updated without spending too much $$$. A couple years ago we changed out our lights and I never loved how our barstools matched since. I purchased 4 different types of stools and lined them up trying to figure out which ones I liked best. They were all very nice! But I ended up with these barstools. I love them! They go with my new decor and lights perfectly and look way more expensive than they actually are.

I’ve also been adding new abstract artwork and plants to small areas and it makes me so happy. Little changes make a big difference! You should love your home and do what it takes to feel cozy in it.

Being a mom is the best and hardest role! I hope you feel loved and celebrated this day and always. Remember to treat yourself! You deserve it!
